Rehoming comes with a lot of responsibility.
When appropriate and we feel our horses are ready, we will consider rehoming them. It takes time to discover and uncover their needs, who they are, and what home would be best. We’ve noticed all our horses have been here about a year before we feel confident enough to consider their forever home. When that time comes, we go through a stringent vetting process — our goal is to ensure that no animal under our care ever winds up in a bad situation again. They deserve humans who have their best interest at heart and not the bottom line.
Hope’s story
Hope was our third rescue. She arrived on August 23, 2020 after we received a call from a rescue group asking if we would be interested in taking in an Arabian. Hope had been surrendered by her owner to a kill pen with the “label” of being neurotic and hard to handle. According to the rescue group, Hope was emaciated, sick and needed out. Our first response was, “Absolutely not!” Why would we go pick up a horse sight unseen that has major behavioral issues? After seeing a video of her, we quickly changed our mind and picked her up the next day.
Hope was nothing like she was described! She was a beautiful but skinny Arabian. Once we got her to Oaky Doak Farm, she blossomed! Over time and through a good diet, she gained weight, but the most heart-warming part is she almost immediately began neighing for me to come to her every time she saw me. She loved attention and giving rides to the children that visited our Farm.
After a little over a year, Hope was rehomed on October 2, 2021 to a family in South Carolina who demonstrated they would give her the love and attention she enjoyed. Hope is now a part of a developing youth program for their church.
